I know I've been focusing a lot on fashion lately, so here's some hair-spiration to change it up a bit. And speaking of hair, I only need a little over 300 more hours until I can get my cosmo license! I can't wait to get into a salon and start working on real people as opposed to our mannequins every day. A couple more months and I'll finally be a licensed cosmetologist:)
Double Whammy: Glitter Roots AND Space Buns
From Drab to Fab
It has been a few months since I last did Amanda's hair and boy was her hair long overdue for a color. She had about an inch of regrowth and the once vibrant purple had faded to a dusty rose. It's okay though because she ordered more color and I had her back to the vivid purple she had a couple months ago in just a few hours. I was relieved that I had already spent nine hours doing her hair the previous time, because that meant all of the prep work was pretty much done and I just had to apply the new color.
This time, Amanda wanted her hair to look more purple. I used a violet for her shadow root, then I used a little bit of a lighter purple for her ends and I blended the colors together with my fingers. Since there was still some blue and pink color left over from the last time I did her hair, we thought it would be fun to add some pink and blue peek a boos throughout her hair.
We washed out the color, and that's pretty much all we had to do. It is so fun to have a friend that will not only let you put crazy colors in their hair, but also let you basically have complete control of how it was going to look. She just told me the colors she wanted and let me choose what to do with them (talk about some serious trust). It's going to be a sad day when she decided to go back to being a brunette.
An "Out of This World" Experience
For months, all of us cosmetology girls have been hard at work getting ready for the hair show.
*hair show (noun): an event where we put ourselves into groups and pick a theme. Then, the group gets a group of models to do hair and makeup on according to their theme.
I was in a group with some of my best friends and the theme we decided on was Intergalactic. I was so excited to get to work; it all looked so good in my head, and I hoped it was going to look just as good when we actually tried our ideas on our girls.

Overall, we had five models to work on. On two of them, we decided to go with more of a messy, stormy look. On the other three, we did different variations of a galaxy look. Here's a little peak at the girls hair. For a more detailed description about my day and what we did to the models, click the link below.

Nine Hours Later
So, I have this friend named Amanda who is in hair school with me. I have colored her hair before; she usually liked to do a deep purple, brown color but it always seemed to wash out of her hair super quickly. Her hair faded to a red color that she was not a fan of and decided it was time for a major change. She came to class one day and was telling me about this color line called Pulp Riot that was supposed to be able to go on darker hair, last for nearly 30 washes, and be super vibrant.
After looking at the Pulp Riot Instagram page, she decided that was the next move for her hair. She ended up buying a few different colors, and I was so excited when she asked me if I wanted to color her hair for her. My automatic reply was YES! It isn't every day somebody comes to you and asks for bright, bold colors. The best part? She told me that I could use any techniques I wanted and basically do whatever I wanted to her hair as long as it was the colors that she picked out. Ideas instantly started going through my mind and I was so excited for the weekend to come so I could finally do her hair.

Saturday morning rolled around and Amanda came over early in the morning so we could get started. This was her hair before I applied any product to it.
First, we prepped her hair with a crystal gel that would remove product buildup from her hair.
Next, we used a color stripper to remove all of the previous color she had on her hair

The next step was to bleach it. She wanted to get her hair as light as possible so the color would show up extra bright in the end. And of course, we added a little bit of Olaplex to help save her hair from as much damage as possible.

At this point, the overall process had taken way longer than I was expecting. It was already 7:30 and I was just getting ready to start applying the color.
I got all of the colors into bowls and mixed up and was so excited to finally start putting it on her hair. I mixed the purple color with the blue color and added a bit of the black in order to have a darker color to use for a shadow root.
I applied the dark color for the shadow root, then I took the other color and blended it into that alternating which color I used with each section of hair. By the time the color had processed and been washed out it was definitely too dark to get a picture with descent lighting so I had to wait until I saw her at school the following Monday to see how it actually turned out.
The colors ended up being really vibrant and she loved it. It was so much fun to just be creative with her hair. I already can't wait to touch it up in a few weeks!

"Lake Hair" Never Looked So Good
Fishtail Frenzy
Two dutch fishtails pulled back and pinned into a messy style
Festival Hair
It's always fun to dress up for no reason (especially when it includes hair and makeup). The theme we went with for this look was Coachella. This style deserves a huge shout out to Jaymie because there's no way I would have been able to sew that thread through my own hair! She did two small french braids on one side of my head, then threaded different colors of string between them, and yes she used a real needle. Below that, she braided a small fishtail. On the other side, Jaymie tied different colors of string into my hair and braided them into another fishtail. Pancake the braids, add some loose curls, and BAM you're ready for Coachella.
Messy Updo
For this, I started by sectioning out the bottom half of her hair and pinned it into a bun. Next, I put a dutch braid on the side of her head and curled the rest of her hair. I took sections of the curls and pinned them around the bun. To finish the style, I pinned the braid around the bun and pulled some hair down to frame her face.
Braided Half-Up Style
I started by doing a dutch braid toward the back of her head. I put her hair half-up but left the braid out. I wrapped the braid around the elastic to cover it. Then, I started my fishtail braid. I wanted the braid to look thicker, so I added a little more hair into the two section of the fishtail. I just braided that all the way down and secured it with an elastic.
How to skip the "awkward" phase when you grow your hair out
Short hair is fun and super trendy right now, but the transition phase from short back to long is always tedious. Why wait months or even years when you could put a few extensions in and have longer hair in just minutes? Katelynd usually has hair that ends a little past her shoulders, but put a few extensions in and boom. Long hair.

Bubble x3
I started by putting some messy curls in her hair. Then, I put her hair half up. Tease the pony tale and make three bubbles down it. Don't forget to cover all of the elastics with hair!
To The Side
For this style, I just swooped her hair over her ear and pinned it in the back of her head. Before I pinned her hair, I pulled up some hair right above where I was going to put the bobby pins and put it back down after the swoop was secured in order to keep the bobby pins hidden.
Double Dutch
Cut & Color
This is Jaymie. Before, her hair was an allover brown (very similar to the color at the top of her hair). I did a balayage, then cut a few layers into her hair, and I am so happy with the way it came out!
Braids & Flowers
When you live in Arizona, there isn't much greenery to take pictures in front of. Luckily, the desert provides a beautiful background. Recently, Katelynd (a hair genius) asked me if she could do my hair so she could add some pictures to her portfolio. I would have been crazy to say no! As always, my hair came out beautiful. She started on one side of my part and did a short dutch fishtail braid. Then she secured it with a clear elastic and did another short fishtail right under it securing the end with an elastic. She continued this patten until she reached the end of the section. On the other side of my part, she just did a plain dutch fishtail braid. Then, she overlapped the two braids and held them in place with bobby pins.

Messy Ponytail
This style is super easy; it's just a dutch braid pulled back into a teased ponytail with a small section of hair fishtail braided
